Singers,
Just two items for your attention, please: 1. Important!! This Monday's rehearsal is at the Lake Mirror Center, downtown Lakeland. This is next to the Texas Cattle Company restaurant (where sometimes the parking lot serves their clientele for overflow parking on weekends). There are two main buildings: One is the theatre where the Community Theatre presents their plays; the other is the auditorium/convention room. We'll rehearse with the band in the auditorium. We'll start promptly at 7:00 p.m., so try to arrive early so we can have seating organized. It's probable that we'll finish our part of the rehearsal and dismiss early. [GPS: 121 S. Lake Ave., Lakeland. This is not the same place as the Lakeland Center, where we'll be a week later.] 2. Please print off a copy of the following lyrics, for "The Stars and Stripes Forever." We'll join in with the band during the final section. [And no, the words are not "Be kind to your kind feathered friends...!"] We won't sing these, but it's fun to see them: Let martial note in triumph float And liberty extend its mighty hand A flag appears 'mid thunderous cheers, The banner of the Western land. The emblem of the brave and true Its folds protect no tyrant crew; The red and white and starry blue Is freedom's shield and hope. Other nations may deem their flags the best And cheer them with fervid elation But the flag of the North and South and West Is the flag of flags, the flag of Freedom's nation. We join in here, on the tune you all know: Hurrah for the flag of the free! May it wave as our standard forever, The gem of the land and the sea, The banner of the right. Let despots remember the day When our fathers with mighty endeavor Proclaimed as they marched to the fray That by their might and by their right It waves forever. See you Monday! Larry
